  The leadership council meets every 2nd Thursday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1212 12th Ave. NW, Rochester. Supper is provided and mileage is reimbursable.

SAM helps and supports people with all disabilities to be active participants in the larger disability and human rights movements. We have trainings, work on regional issues, and support other advocacy organizations.

9 \ 28 \ 10 12:30 AM  - 3:30 PM Help Me Grow IEIC Meeting
  This special workshop, sponsored by the Rochester Area Help ME Grow & Dodge/Olmsted Help ME Grow, will review how young children with and without disabilities develop literacy, what parents and professional can do to promote the development of literacy which includes understanding the importance of literacy rich environments. The importance of using children\'s books that have characters with disabilities and illness with all young children will also be discussed. The speaker, Joan K. Blaska, PH.D., is an Education Consultant and Professor Emeritus from St. Cloud State University where she trained teachers to work with young children with and without disabilities and their families. Dr. Blaska taught emergent literacy courses while at the university and has done extensive training in this area as a consultant. Parents/caregivers of young children with special needs and professionals who work with young children in the Rochester and Zumbro Education Districts are invited. CEUs available.   This event is a great resource for parents and students in the Rochester area who will be going through the transition process in the next few years.
